I normally don't go political but this just made me mad as hell. So I am asking my readers to make a New Year's Resolution to write your Congress and Senate representatives. The record companies are now going to try and get just the act of ripping a CD declared illegal!
I have no problem paying for albums. I do have a problem being forced to buy electronic copies. I rather have the CD for the fact if my computer blows up, I have a backup of my music library in the form of CDs. If ripping a CD is illegal then the next thing they will do is make backing up the tracks illegal.
Let your government representative know that fair use is buying a CD and ripping it for your personal enjoyment. You can find your US representative using the White House site. The more voters who voice their concern the sooner the RIAA will be forced to back down. If you are not in the US contact someone you know in the US.
If they win the next target is your DVR. So let's get the word out and act.
UPDATE - It has been pointed out that RIAA is saying the act of putting a MP3 in a shared folder is a violation of copyright law. This is still troublesome. Does this mean if I share my music within my immediate family I am in violation of copyright law by the RIAA this maybe in fact be the case. I still urge people to write your representative. Congress makes law not the RIAA.
