The Windows Mobile team has released a detail step by step guide on using Hopper to improve the quality of mobile applications. Hopper is a tool used to find bugs in an application with unscripted input.
The detailed guide shows step by step how to use Hopper to find potential bugs. Hopper generates random user input to applications. Basically it tests for what happens if someone picks up your application and starts randomly tapping and entering input. This can be very useful for testing the stability of an application. It can also potentially find bugs that you would not find with scripted tests.
Hopper does require that you create a focusApp. This application knows what application to test by doing a code change. So you will need to have VS2005 installed. You compile and then launch your focusApp and Hopper. There is also a Hopper Blog.
The new Emulator 3.0 has scripted input. You can create an XML file that then runs when the Emulator is launched. This allows for scripted test runs. Although it is not a true debug tool. It could be used to make sure the same input and sequence is used.
Happy bug hunting.
