Yesterday was the openning day for MEDC 2007. A lot of very cool things were announced during the keynote by Robbie Bach.
My personnal favorite and long time readers will find cool is device services. So with Device Services the device can have a built in web service. You can also build a gateway in which access to devices are exposed via web services. Hum sounds like the Home Automation system I did for Intuitive Homes which was totally run by web services.
Another item announced and demonstrated is SilverLight on devices. This was also announced and demonstrated at Mix the Web 2.0 conference that is running concurrently. SilverLight is Microsoft's answer to Flash. It runs in I.E., Mozilla, and Safari. And at sometime in the future CE and Windows Mobile. It was known as WPF/E.
Finally Microsoft announced the Ofone. This bad boy has a circular screen and 3 rotating keypads. Very cool. Ok so it was an April Fools day joke but also a reminder to developers on making sure to keep your applications adaptable. Hopefully the video will be posted one day.
The mobility in action booth is a hit. People were blown away by see the servers and scaleability of SSCE and SQL 2005. For a good look at it you can hear from Rob Tiffany himself on YouTube.com. You can also see more videos as well. If you are at the conference stop by and chat.
