It looks like the mobile security and anti-virus market is heating up. A new version of Symantec's Mobile Antivirus product is set to be released in May and turn it into a Mobile Security suite.
According to a report at CNet News the new version will include features that will allow IT Administrators to begin to extend control over mobile devices. In addition, the report points out that the notion of viruses on hand held devices is controversial.
The attack vectors for WM devices can be minimized. While owners of consumer devices tend to have lax security, Enterprise devices can be restricted to signed application thus lowering the risk of an infection. The product seems to be more oriented towards network access and prevention. So Symantec's move towards more network control and access makes sense. I look forward to actually testing it out.
