If you thought the Compact Framework was small check out the Micro Compact Framework.
Announced at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston, the .NET Micro Framework is now available for as a broad beta. It is used to build .Net applications that need to run on very small devices like the Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT). These types of devices tend to be extremely small and lack the rich user interface people are use to with .Net or Compact Framework.
For more information and access to the beta go to http://www.aboutnetmf.com/entry.asp.
If you think this rocks, checkout - http://www.cryptoflexnet.gemalto.com/
smaller footprint than SPOT, but more functioinality, no user interface though...

Had signed up for one of their beta programs. Contact the website and ask for their developers kit. Software is an Add-In for Visual Studio, so you can do both card side and host side development without leaving VS.
