So the keynote for MacWorld this year looks well a non-event or may be a bad event judging by the drop in the stock 10 points to 168.50. And down almost 20% from from its 52 week high at 202.96.
The highlights
- 5 million copies of Leopard sold converting 20% of the Apple install base
- MacOffice - official
- Time Capsule - an airport with a built-in 500GB or 1TB of drive space similar to Windows Home Server (is Apple copying Microsoft say it ain't so)
- 5 million iPhones - no just 4 million which is still impressive
- Averaging 20k iPhone sales per day
- SDK - no but you get some cool features for more web applications, yawn
- iTouch gets more apps that the iPhone already had but you have to pay $20 for the upgrade!
- iTunes adds in more HD movies and movie rental. My favorite comment "Never offered rentals for music because people want to own their movies. Rentals is a great way to look at movies." Ah have you been in someone's home ever heard about the DVD Changer. I think people want to own content so they can watch it whenever the mood strikes just like music.
- Apple TV - Jobs admits it was bomb so lets try again by adding in the ability to retrieve content without a computer. OK but I'm sorry Mr. Jobs the thing bombed because of a lack of content and your poor SD to HD conversion. Did you fix that problem? Sort of with more HD content (100 titles vs 1000 SD titles) but still most of the content is SD. So I think Apple TV will again be a bomb. Not to mention the demo failing for view photos on Flickr.
- OK - now the cool news the new ultra thin Mac called MacBook Air and it ranges from 0.8" to 1.2" in thickness. It can even come with a 64GB solid state drive. But wait there is more Bluetooth, WiFi and magnetic power cord - no more broken power poles.
- No and one more thing just a song by Randy Newman.
Overall I would rate the keynote a yawner. By the time I finished this post the stock had dropped an additional 2 points - oops.
