A new shell replacement has come out for Windows Mobile Professional. PointUI is a finger based UI so that you do not need to use a stylus! In addition, it has a cool UI and transitions between screens.
I took PointUI out for a test drive on my Treo 750. The home screen was nicely laid out and various main tasks had a large area for my fingers to touch. Touching the various icons came up with the application or another screen that you would expect. For example touching the phone gave me a list of calls.
I redacted out phone numbers. You can see the person or phone number if the contact is not in you contact list. To scroll simply swipe your finger up or down similar to the iPhone. Touching the name brought a screen to make a call or send a text message. Also you can slide your finger side to side like the iPhone to go back to the list.
Clicking the battery gave me a rotating transition to the battery page.
This was very well done and static images do not do it justice. Someone worked long and hard to bring a sexy UI to Windows Mobile.
So what happens when you go into an existing application like email. PointUI takes up the top part where the original shell was so you can go back to PointUI.
Side swiping the home screen brought more than a clock including
- Weather
- Appointments
- A calendar
- Tasks
For a v1 product it had a good feel and polish. Well done and free to boot. So give PointUI I don't think you will be disappointed.
