Last night I decided to see an episode of Eureka I had missed. The Sci-Fi channel has been advertising that I could watch the episode on their website.
I watched the video which was spaced out with ads. Then after a while the ads stopped. It was actually pretty nice although the quality of the video left a lot to be desired. So I poked around the site to see what else I could find.
The USA network has the right ideas but the website is a disaster everything from bad links and missing portions of videos for example the second chapter of the webisode is missing. After a decade of building commercial websites a major company should not have a website in this state.
I was also surprised that they did not have all the episodes with built in ads. I really think that would be a better model for channels than selling episodes on iTunes. A website and video server is easy to setup so why let Apple or anyone have even a slim slice of the revenue just for selling the content? People are use to seeing ads with video content.
