Recently I have been reading general business books. I wanted to see if business project management differed from project management books for computer projects.
I picked up the book Managing Projects Large and Small walking through the airport. The book is from Harvard Business Essentials series. I was very happy to see that it basically reinforced what I had already read and experience in managing projects. In fact it got a bit boring which in this case was a good thing.
One item that was very interesting was a whole chapter on "Project Adaptation". Basically this is the ability to run a project in an interative process. Thus the project is constantly adapting to changing environment and needs. I found this very interesting because here was a business book from Harvard saying look a project plan is not static but needs to change and adapt. If you do not then people will ignore or conceal problems as a project drives to the finish line. I thought yup, seen a lot of projects where the project plan could not be changed even as the environment and requirements changed. So you can guess what happened to the project.
So take a look. I have included a link to Amazon where you can look at some of the content. And if you buy it using the link I get a tiny commission to help pay to keep the lights on my blog.
